What do Volunteers Do?

Volunteers are involved in every aspect of the Babbage's operation. Here's a list of some of the jobs that get done, from donations to sales.
  • Identify new donors of computers, software, and other items.
  • Contact existing donors periodically.
  • Pick up up donations, when necessary.
  • Sort and evaluate donations.
  • Check and clean computers and other items.
  • Repair and/or rebuild computers and other items.
  • Work in display area; arrange displays and keep it looking good.
  • Find people who need what Babbage's has!
  • Help people select computers and other items.

Do I need to be a geek?

No! You don't even need technical expertise; there's lots of non-technical things that need doing, and we need help doing them.

You will probably pick up some tech smarts on the way, along with a rich, warm feeling from helping other people!

    What's in it for me?

You'll be contributing to Babbage's goals, which include raising money for the Sciencenter, placing working computers where they'll help other people, and reducing the quantity of waste that ends up in landfills or worse. Why should perfectly good products end up in a landfill?
  • Raise money for Sciencenter.
  • Help someone who can't otherwise afford a computer, to have one.
  • Enjoy the challenge of making old computers live again, and seeing them put to good use.
  • Enjoy working with and learning about computers you have never seen before.
  • Keep good stuff out of landfills, and reduce the need to manufacture additional throw-away products.
  • Work with other friendly and dedicated volunteers.
